Local buses are only 1 RMB per ride – any distance. Bus multi-trip cards can be purchased at a cost of 10 RMB plus paid up front of whichever amount you wish, and topped up as required. This gives you 11 rides for the price of 10. Taxis are very cheap and plentiful, except around change of shift/dinner time between 5.30 and 6.30 p.m.
Yichang only has a local bus service – no local train system. There are long distance busses and trains, plus river ferries. Local buses are plentiful and frequent. Expect crowding and to stand up. Also expect them to have problems going up even the slightest hill, and also to overtake on double lines.
Pedestrians also beware! Crossings only mean that you need to look at least twice each way and then be prepared to give way to all vehicular traffic.
